LG has introduced the GM200 with a 2.1 channel woofer for those who love listening to music on the go. This simple bar phone has an excellent quality.

The loudspeaker for voice calls is placed just above the 2.0-inch screen. The shiny rectangular D-pad is below the screen, which has shortcut for messages, profiles, phonebook and favorites. These can be changed according to the needs of the user. The D-pad is surrounded by four keys – for contacts and power on/off on the right and for menu and calling on the left. Below it is the complete alphanumeric keypad.

The keys are well spaced and are made of plastic. The keypad is comfortable to use even when typing long messages. The volume rocker is on the left of the device. This is followed by the slot for the memory card.

A one-touch key for FM and music player is on the right. This is followed by the three-in-one slot for charger, earphone and USB. The device has a 3.5 mm jack on the top for listening to music via a speaker or headphones. This makes a LG GM200 a good music phone. The LG GM200 has the Data Wallet application where users can safely store important data. The phone takes GPRS settings automatically. However, viewing WAP pages on a 2.0 inch screen is a little uncomfortable.

The excellent sound quality and the decent battery backup are the best features of the phone. A single charge lasts three days. This includes listening to music on the loudspeaker for three hours and making and receiving calls for two hours. For sharing files wirelessly the phone has Bluetooth with A2DP. The GM200 has a mobile tracker where users can store up to two numbers which will receive SMSes in case the phone is stolen. This phone has an onboard memory of 14 MB that can be expanded up to 2 GB through a microSD card.

What’s Not Good: External keypad makes the phone look like a retro calculator, although I suppose that could be seen as a good thing. Space bar is small and oddly placed. Verizon’s menu system can be confusing. Limited Bluetooth functionality. Still a little bulky.

Bottom Line: Verizon and LG shrunk the EnV and the results are good. While the original EnV was an innovative but (very) big and expensive high-end phone, the EnV2 is smaller, cheaper, and slots into the middle of VZW’s messaging phone lineup. Text addicts who don’t need Voyager’s touchscreen — and additional size and cost — should find QWERTY bliss with this affordable and capable handset.
